Mr.
Matthew Price is the Director of Bands at Flat Rock Middle School in
Tyrone, Georgia. He joins us from Stockbridge, GA where he was the
Director of Bands at Stockbridge Middle School. In Stockbridge, his
ensembles received superior ratings at all competitions and contests
entered. During his two year tenure there, the band grew from 175 to
its current enrollment of 210. Mr. Price was named Teacher of the Month
2 times while at SMS, and he was on the Teacher of the Year Ballot
twice. He is an Honor Graduate from the Schwob School of Music at
Columbus State University. While at CSU, he was a regular
performer with the CSU Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and
Orchestra. He was also a performer with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra
and the Columbus Ballet Orchestra. He has performed with artists like
Chris Martin, Principal trumpeter with the Chicago Symphony, Joseph
Alessi, Principal trombonist with the New York Philharmonic, John-Bruce
Yea, Associate Principal Clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony, and many
other outstanding musicians. He can be heard as a percussion soloist
and as a section member on the Summit Recording Label with the CSU Wind
Ensemble. A classically trained pianist, Mr. Price also maintains an
active schedule accompanying soloists, churches, college, high, and
middle school music programs. He also maintains an active private
percussion studio and is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician.
He
has been actively involved in music education for nine years as
a private instructor, arranger, and musical consultant. Students and
ensembles under his direction have never received anything less than
Superior Ratings at district and state evaluations. He has worked with
students and given master classes at the Columbus State University Music
Conservatory, the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus, Jackson,
Dutchtown, East Coweta, Columbus, Harris County, and Northside High
Schools as well as Stockbridge, Henderson, and Veterans Memorial Middle
Schools. In his youth, he was a participant in the Governor's Honors
Program on the campus of Valdosta State University, the GMEA All-State
Band for five consecutive years, The Jacksonville State University Honor
Band and the UGA Janfest Honor Band. He is a member of MENC, PAS, Phi
Kappa Phi, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Mr.
Price was born in Jackson, GA and has shared a love for performing and
teaching music his entire life. He has always been an advocate for
providing students with a healthy arena that promotes each individual's
artistic and intellectual growth. He realizes that circumstances are
inherently different for all students, and he works tirelessly to bring
out the innate potential in all who enter the music program.
He
emphasizes and expects excellence by providing his students with the
tools they will need to become outstanding musicians as well as
outstanding members of society.
Mr.
Price currently resides in Mcdonough, GA with his beautiful wife
Seohyun. He enjoys golf, baseball, movies, and literature.
He
is very excited about continuing and enhancing the level of musical
excellence at Flat Rock Middle School, and he is thrilled about working
with the fine parents and students of this very strong program.
